Formed in the shadows of Hollywood’s diverse
musical terrain, vocalist/guitarist Leonard Jackson,
bassist/vocalist Ian Schaeffer, and drummer Tom DuPree III surface
with edge and energy that combines the city’s broad musical elements
into a fresh package of polished post-punk with raw garage vitality.
The sonic spirit of the band's varied influences arrives in 2008
with the release of their debut album, Nothing But Teeth. Produced
by Ethan Allen (The 88, Better Than Ezra, Counting Crows) and mixed
by Mark Needham (The Killers, Bloc Party, My Chemical Romance), the
album's 10 tracks capture the band's tightly charged and potent rock
that feels like Nirvana met Modest Mouse.
THE FORWARD began in 2006 as a product of the musical collaboration
between Jackson and Schaeffer. Together the pair pulled their varied
histories--- Schaeffer’s east coast roots and previous achievements
in Columbia Records outfit WHEAT, and Jackson’s self-taught and
organic knack for songwriting---to create a fresh sound with
distinct rock influences. The band found early successes with their
captivating songs including multiple TV placements on MTV and
showcase appearances at South By Southwest in 2007. The next step
was the addition of drummer DuPree III, who joined the pair in 2008,
bringing his experience from fledgling east-coast garage projects
into the mix and solidifying the band's sound.
With their firm line-up in place, the band entered the studio in
late 2007 to begin work on Nothing But Teeth, with an independent
release set for early summer. Prior to the album's proper release,
however, the band will drop an exclusive limited-edition pre-release
of the complete disc, available on the band's national tour (details
below), beginning March 6 in Los Angeles. The proper release will
follow with the band headlining a CD Release Event in Hollywood,
with more details forthcoming. |
